Why Does the Creator Remain Unseen?
Let’s approach the question from the opposite direction. Imagine a world where every human being could see the Creator directly. Or, for those who argue that humans lack the capacity to perceive the Creator, imagine instead that the Creator’s way of governing the universe was made completely obvious.
Let’s expand that. Think of physical and chemical laws surrounding us like rigid, unbreakable rules. Imagine having no real freedom of choice. Every action triggers an immediate consequence. Any wrong or harmful behavior is punished instantly. Any good deed is rewarded instantly.
To understand this, consider an example from everyday social life. Picture a workplace with extremely strict control. Let’s build our scenario around one employee:
From the moment you enter the building, you are under firm rules. Every corner is monitored by cameras. You pass through security with the proper ID. You must be at your floor and office exactly on time. You cannot enter any room or section you are not authorized for. Even if you are curious, you cannot ask questions freely. You must complete certain tasks within strict timeframes. If you fall behind, you are warned immediately. If it happens again, the warnings turn into penalties. You cannot freely communicate with other employees. You cannot walk out when you feel like it or skip coming to the office. Every room is tightly restricted and only accessible to the assigned person. The whole environment works like a machine.
In such a place, there is no way to know whether you work willingly or not. If all of these controls were removed, no one would know how you would behave. If the rules were relaxed, no one could predict whether you would remain trustworthy. It’s unclear if you would communicate well with others. Whether you could maintain a healthy relationship with your employer is uncertain. If you made a mistake and no warning came, no one could know whether you would correct yourself. Without control, no one could know how disciplined you would be with time. In short, your true character, moral values, sense of responsibility, and inner worth could never be measured.
The Creator tests the human being, a creature given the ability to distinguish right from wrong, and guided through messengers of its own kind. This test must take place in an environment where humans are free in their actions. For such a test to be meaningful, certain uncertainties must exist, and the answers must remain hidden.
The Creator must remain unseen. The results of actions must not unfold instantly. The realms of reward and punishment must remain concealed. Only then can those who choose goodness willingly and lovingly be distinguished from those who choose otherwise.
